Rather predictable result in Heathmont where eighth ranked Hawks (6-3) defeated 11th ranked Lady Cobras (3-4) 72-54. It was an exceptional evening for naturalized Turkish guard Funda Nakkasoglu (173-95, college: Florida) who led the winners and scored 23 points. Guard Marena Whittle (180-94, college: NDSU, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Hawks' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Georgia Booth (174-3) added 13 points respectively for Lady Cobras in the defeat. Hawks moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Warwick S. Lady Cobras at the other side dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Gold Coast R. and USC Rip. Hawks will play against league's leader Frankston Blues in Seaford in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lady Cobras will play at home against Mount Gambier Pioneers (#15) and hope to get back on the winning track.
