The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Mountain Airs' (2-13) road loss to ninth ranked Bulls (5-11) 99-101 on Saturday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Bulls made 9 blocks. Australian forward Manel Ayol (201, college: Hawaii) scored 31 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Denhym Brooke (203-96, college: Hawaii-Hilo) chipped in 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks during the contest. Four Bulls players scored in double figures. At the losing side naturalized American forward Marcel Jones (203-85, college: Oregon St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds and the former international power forward Tai Wynyard (208-98, college: Kentucky) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Bulls moved-up to eighth place. Loser Mountain Airs stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost. Bulls will meet higher ranked Giants (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mountain Airs will play against Huskies in Auckland and hope to secure a win.
