Diamond Valley Eagles can celebrate finally their first win this season after ten consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Ballarat Rush (3-7) 85-78 on Sunday. Diamond Valley Eagles made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. Strangely Ballarat Rush outrebounded Diamond Valley Eagles 45-29 including 18 on the offensive glass. Forward Olivia Bontempelli (179-93) stepped up and scored 22 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners and power forward Sophie Burrows (184-4) chipped in 19 points. At the losing side forward Alicia Froling (190-96, college: SMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and guard Jasmine Simmons (180-99, college: Oregon St.) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Diamond Valley Eagles maintains eighteenth place in League with 1-10 record. Loser Ballarat Rush keeps the fourteenth position with seven games lost. Diamond Valley Eagles will meet at home league's leader Frankston Blues in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ballarat Rush will play against Tigers (#8) in Melbourne and hope to secure a win.
