There was no surprise in Melbourne where 5th ranked Thunder (5-5) was defeated by second ranked Boomers (10-1) 80-71 on Sunday. Boomers looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Boomers made 8 blocks. Naturalized British forward Louella Tomlinson (193-88, college: St.Mary's, CA) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks for the winners and guard Kate Gaze (173-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. At the losing side point guard Ellen Kett (170-94, college: Simon Fraser) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists and Alexandra Keating scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Boomers keep a position of League leader. Loser Thunder keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Boomers will meet Cavaliers (#4) in the next round. Thunder will play against the league's second-placed Jets in Sunbury and hope to secure a win.
