Regular Season Round 29: SW Metro P. - Townsville F. 51-80

There was no surprise in Runcorn where 8th ranked Pirates (5-8) were crushed by fifth ranked Flames (9-3) 80-51 on Friday. Flames forced 23 Pirates turnovers. Guard Stephanie Reid (168-96, college: Buffalo) stepped up and scored 21 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard Mia Murray (184-88) chipped in 20 points and 4 assists. Amanda Johnson responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds and New Zealand forward Charmian Mellars (182-79) scored 5 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flames moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Pirates dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Flames will meet at home Wizards (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Pirates will play against Sunshine CP in Cotton Tree and hope to secure a win.
