Very expected game in Wendouree where 14th ranked Ballarat Rush (4-9) was rolled over by fifth ranked Wildcats (10-3) 82-63 on Saturday. Wildcats held Ballarat Rush to an opponent 23.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 38.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Wildcats looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Wildcats made 10 blocks. Swingman Anneli Maley (188-98, college: TCU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winners and center Rebecca Pizzey (190-99) chipped in 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four Wildcats players scored in double figures. Taylah Wynne responded with 20 points and guard Jasmine Simmons (180-99, college: Oregon St.) scored 6 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wildcats moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Ballarat Rush dropped to the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Wildcats will meet Mount Gambier Pioneers (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Ballarat Rush will play against Geelong Supercats and hope to secure a win.
