Another interesting game for Canberra Capitals (3-1) which played on the court of 3rd placed Townsville Fire (2-2). Fourth ranked Canberra Capitals crushed hosts 76-52. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Canberra Capitals forced 22 Townsville Fire turnovers and outrebounded them 38-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. The former international power forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and forward Mikaela Ruef (191-90, college: Stanford) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Stephanie Reid (168-96, college: Buffalo) responded with 11 points and American guard Sug Sutton (176-98, college: Texas) scored 6 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Canberra Capitals moved-up to second place, which they share with Adelaide. Townsville Fire at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Southside. Canberra Capitals will play against league's leader Boomers in Melbourne in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Townsville Fire will play at home against Bendigo Spirit and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
