Regular Season Round 9: Sydney Uni - Adelaide 52-77

Date: January 20, 2022
Bottom-ranked Sydney Uni Flames is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fourth consecutive match to second ranked Adelaide Lightning (4-1) 77-52 on Thursday evening. Adelaide Lightning held Sydney Uni Flames to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 51.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Adelaide Lightning had a 36-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international forward Stephanie Talbot (188-94) nailed 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and the former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-95) accounted for 16 points. Four Adelaide Lightning players scored in double figures. Point guard Shyla Heal (167-1) came up with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Sydney Uni Flames in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Adelaide Lightning have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 4-1 record having six points less than leader Melbourne. Loser Sydney Uni Flames still closes the standings with four games lost. Adelaide Lightning will meet at home Southside Flyers (#6) in the next round. Sydney Uni Flames will play against Bendigo Spirit and hope to get finally their first victory.
