Rather expected game when 5th ranked Townsville Fire (6-8) was smashed on the road by third ranked Adelaide Lightning (9-3) 78-57 on Saturday. Adelaide Lightning dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Townsville Fire's 24. Adelaide Lightning looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Alanna Smith (193-1996, college: Stanford) who led the winners and scored 24 points and 9 rebounds. The former international forward Stephanie Talbot (188-1994) accounted for 10 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Four Adelaide Lightning players scored in double figures. Adelaide Lightning's coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Courtney Woods (183-1997, college: NIU) came up with 21 points and 5 rebounds and guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Townsville Fire in the defeat. Adelaide Lightning have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain third place with 9-3 record behind leader Canberra. Townsville Fire lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Bendigo. Adelaide Lightning will meet at home league's leader Canberra Capitals in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Townsville Fire will play against Southside Flyers (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
