Very predictable result in Mount Waverley where fourteenth ranked Falcons (2-1) beat bottom-ranked Diamond Valley Eagles (0-4) 74-69 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Falcons made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for forward Renae Mokrzycki (183-1994, college: Idaho) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Rebecca Cole (178-1992) helped adding 16 points and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Forward Kate Oliver (193-1991, college: USC) responded with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and power forward Sophie Burrows (184-2004) scored 9 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Falcons moved-up to tenth place in League. Loser Diamond Valley Eagles still closes the standings with four games lost. Falcons will meet Frankston Blues (#12) in the next round. Diamond Valley Eagles will play against Chargers (#20) and hope to get finally their first victory.
