Regular Season Round 11: Melbourne T. - Nunawading S. 48-85
Date: May 8, 2022
Bottom-ranked Tigers (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 85-48 loss to sixteenth ranked Spectres (2-2) in Melbourne on Sunday evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Tigers' 34 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Spectres forced 24 Tigers turnovers and outrebounded them 48-35 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Cassidy Mihalko (180-1995, college: CBU) who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points and 7 rebounds. Her fellow American import forward Megan Mullings (185-1992, college: Alaska-Anch.) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. Five Spectres players scored in double figures. Forward Tess Heal (178-2004) responded with 14 points and forward Hannah Giddey (188, college: ORU) scored 7 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spectres moved-up to fourteenth place in League. Loser Tigers still closes the standings with four games lost. Spectres will meet higher ranked Cavaliers (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tigers will have a break next round.
