The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Flames (6-1) in Townsville on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Thunder (7-0) 95-77. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Flames. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Thunder looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Mikaela Ruef (191-1990, college: Stanford) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 4 assists. New Zealand swingman Chevannah Paalvast (181-1991, college: Monmouth) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Swingman Courtney Woods (183-1997, college: NIU) replied with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) added 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Flames. Thunder have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-0 record. Flames at the other side keep the second place with one game lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Thunder are looking forward to face Seahawks (#9) in Runaway Bay in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
