There was a minor upset when their close opponent Flames (6-3) lost to sixth ranked Meteorettes (7-6) in Mackay 70-77 on Friday. Meteorettes dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Flames' 26. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Meteorettes made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for Grace George (-2000) who led the winners and scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Miela Goodchild (178-2000, college: Duke) accounted for 21 points for the winning side. Four Meteorettes players scored in double figures. Meteorettes' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Stephanie Reid (168-1996, college: Buffalo) came up with 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 9 assists and swingman Courtney Woods (183-1997, college: NIU) added 20 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Flames in the defeat. Meteorettes moved-up to third place in League. Loser Flames dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
