There was no surprise in Wendouree where 12th ranked Thunder (6-8) was defeated by ninth ranked Ballarat Rush (9-6) 89-79 on Saturday. Ballarat Rush dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Thunder's 24. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international swingman Jade Melbourne (176-2002, college: Arizona St.) had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and guard Isabella Brancatisano (170-1995) chipped in 25 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Ballarat Rush players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Madeleine Garrick (178-1992) with 28 points and 6 rebounds and forward Monique Andriuolo (185-1998, college: Pepperdine) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ballarat Rush moved-up to eighth place in League. Loser Thunder dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Ballarat Rush will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Thunder's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Melbourne to the arena Tigers.
