Regular Season Round 36: Bendigo LB - Mt Gambier 81-78

Third-ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (14-4) were very close to win a game against first ranked Lady Braves (18-2) in Bendigo on Saturday. Lady Braves managed to secure only three-point victory 81-78. However their fans expected easier game. It was a good game for the former international guard Abigail Wehrung (177-1995) who led her team to a victory with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Cassidy McLean (178-1999) contributed with 26 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Canadian swingman Cassandra Brown (189-1992, college: Portland) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds and guard Hannah Young (178-1993, college: Kent St.) added 19 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Mount Gambier Pioneers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Lady Braves maintains first position in League with 18-2 record. Mount Gambier Pioneers at the other side keep the third place with four games lost. Lady Braves will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play on the road against Geelong Supercats and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
