The Cook Islands Basketball Federation women's and men's national teams will tour Wellington, the capital of New Zealand in three weeks time.
Cook Islands coach, former NZ Tall Black Ralph Adams and the federation's Liz Sosene have organised this tour as a replacement for the cancelled Polynesian Games earlier this year.
"After selecting the top Cook Islands players' for this tournament it was disappointing that all the players hard work and training was to be in vain, so we are undertaking this tour to increase our players' skills and experience for the South Pacific Mini Games 2005 and any future international tournaments" says coach Adams.
Five games are scheduled against Wellington, Hutt Valley, Porirua, Saints and the Wellington Regional Maori selection
The greater Wellington Cook Islands community and Brian Powell, general manager of the Basketball New Zealand Federation have helped to ensure that this tour goes ahead.
Excitement will be high and the competition stiff as NZ Cook Islands players have the opportunity to compete against the national touring teams with vocal support sure to create an electric atmosphere.
The players, committee and managers have begun an intensive fundraising campaign.
