Interested teams are invited to register for the Rarotongan Championship Open Competition which starts this week. Based on the back of some strong regional representation, Cook Islands Basketball Federation will go into a local championship competition to be held at Tereora College on Thursday nights. The federation is aiming to run a six team league in both the men's and women's division and will also look to have a couple of junior development teams in the mix. A Cook Islands under-17 team is currently in Noumea facing the might of some very accomplished national sides from the likes of New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti and Guam. While it is early days, both teams have had extremely close encounters both with the host nation New Caledonia but lost the matches. The local U17 basketballers will return next week and hit the court in the senior open competition.
