After six weeks of the 5X5 Rarotonga Basketball Competition, today teams will be battling for the top spot in the final play offs. At the Papaaroa Seventh Day Adventist Hall, the U16 Rarotonga Northern Stars will be vying for a spot in the showdown when the side takes on Southern Express in the girls and the Eastern Heat in the boys' semis. Organiser Puna Vano says last week's match 'was a very intense' one between the U16 Girls Southern Express and Eastern Heat, resulting in 23 points draw. Vano said it was a neck to neck game with the Eastern Heat shooting the ball through the hoop in the last minute to level the match. Depending on the teams ranking on their points table, the semi-finalists were confirmed - the Northern Team remains at the top of the points table in U16 boys, girls and open women divisions.
Southern Express are leading in the open men event. Vano is encouraging parents and supporters to get to the competition venue early to get the best seats in the hall.
The finals will be held next week.
