Australia registered the second consecutive over New Zealand to sweep the Oceania Championship. Lauren Jackson (196-F/C-81) nailed 21 points to lead the Opals in Canberra.
Australia posted a 20:16 lead after the opening quarter. The Opals stretched the gap in the second frame. They registered a 39:34 halftime advantage. The Opals shifted the gear in the third term. They unloaded 27 points to secure a comfortable 18-point lead before the fourth quarter. Australia kept the Tall Ferns at bay throughout the final stanza and raced to the victory at the end. Belinda Snell (181-SF-81) chipped in 17 points, while Kelly Wilson (170-G-84) added 10 points for the winning side. Antonia Edmondson (181-F-87) answered with 26 points for New Zealand. Micaela Cocks (174-G-86, college: Oregon) had 25 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.
