Review of NCAA Div I Pacific Islanders - Mens- March 7, 2005Vili Morton (203-F) (Samoan/American Samoan) Morton had a good start to the season, with his rebounding and field goal percentages among the top in NCAA Division I. Unfortunately three games into the Big West conference, Morton got injured for the rest of the season, although he will recover and end up playing professional basketball overseas. His team’s chances faded as soon as Morton got injured. Morton finishes his career at UC Riverside as the all time leading block shots. Season Stats: 12 games, 16.5ppg (58.9%FG), 9.1rpg, 1.8apg, 1.1bpg, 0.6spg, 32.3mpg John Tofi (203-F/C-84) (American Samoan0 Tofi started the beginning of the season injured and had to come from the bench. As the season progressed UTEP needed help in the inside the Tofi stepped up. Although Tofi offensive numbers had decreased a lot, his rebounding had improved. Expect him to have a strong senior season next year Season Stats: 31 games, 6.3 ppg (48.8%FG), 6.4rpg, 1.1apg, 0.9bpg, 0.5spg, 22.3mpg Anis Taylor (186-G) (Guamese) Taylor saw more playing time in his sophomore year, especially in the starting line-up. Although stats wide he has shown little improvement, it is anticipated that Taylor will play a bigger role for Bethune Cookman College next season Season Stats: 25 games 3.8ppg (36.65FG, 25.0%3PT), 1.8rpg, 1.0apg, 0.6spg, 0.2bpg, 18.4mpg J.J. Tauai (191-G-85) (Samoan or American Samoan) Tauai was expected to take over one of the guard positions in the starting line-up for Bradley, however poor performances in the beginning of the season regulated him into the bench. Although he played key minutes off the bench, his stats had decreased compared to last year. |
