Samoa withdraws from Mini SP Games

According to Samoan NT co-captain Brandyn Akana, Samoa will not field a team in the upcoming Mini South Pacific Games in Palau.  This is seen as a crucial blow as the Samoans have strong men and women teams.  The Mini SP Games are viewed as a preview for the 2007 South Pacific Games in Samoa.  With no games schedule in 2005 or 2006 it is seen as a crucial blow for the Samoan chances in 2007.

PNG to tour the Phillipines before the Mini SP Games

The PNG national team is expected to tour for a week the Phillipines before going to Palau where there are expected to play semi professional teams and teams from the university league.   Phillipines and PNG have strong ties in basketball with many Filipinos playing in PNG and FILBA having a strong influence in the development of basketballin PNG, while Phillipines bright young basketball player Joachim Thoss was born in PNG.
