Day 2 of the South Pacific Mini Games- July 26, 2005Men’s Game 1 Papua New Guinea defeated Marshall Islands 96-72 Papua New Guinea swept away the Marshall Islands in the first victory in the tournament. PNG took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Even though the Marshall Islands kept the game close, PNG step it up to another level in the fourth. PNG were shooting the ball very well, especially from the three-point range. Ben Elavo was awesome in his shooting with 26 point and 7/7 from the three-point range. Roy Gime had 15 points and 5 rebounds, Joe Elavo had 10 points and 5 rebounds while Colin Kila had 7 points and 6 steals. For the Marshall Islands Bolear Bonka had 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals, Wayne Anjain had 15 points Jotai Jotai had 11 points and Ulualofaiga Tagoililagi had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Game 2 New Caledonia defeats Fiji 48-46 The game of the group stage lived up to expectation with a thriller of a match against the Fijians and New Caledonias. The Fijian took control in the first half with a lead of 6 points. The New Caledonians clawed back with a third and fourth quarter to eventually take the game. Both team were shooting the ball well but the New Caledonians convincingly outrebounded the Fijians which are extremely missing Marques Whippy in that department. For New Caledonia, Fabrice Chaliot and Benoit Weber scored 11 and 10 points respectively while veteran player Lorenzo Subiranas had 9 points and a team high 6 rebounds. For the Fijians Leonard Whippy had 11 points and 6 rebounds and Sakiusa Rokodi and Laisiasa Puamau had 10 and 9 points respectively.
