Raiwaqa teams dominate basketball championships - May 1, 2016

RAIWAQA teams USP and Dynamic Reds are the winners of the Powerade Basketball Fiji Winston appeal in the men's and women's division respectively. USP edged Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association club winners Boston White 33-30 to claim the men's title while Dynamic Reds ousted Sparks 26-14 to win the women's final. Basketball Fiji chief operating officer Laisiasa Puamau said the administration was pleased with the response from respective associations in their quick response to field teams at short notice to raise funds for a worthy cause. "There were a lot of good teams that participated today and some of the development teams stood out such as Iconic Reds for the women and the Amazons. We are particularly grateful for our partners and former national reps who have all contributed to making this four-day tournament successful," he said. The fundraising tournament BF chairman Ioane Naivalurua's idea after the federation had made the decision to cancel the annual Easter tournament in the aftermath of the cyclone. A total of 26 teams had participated in the event from three affiliated associations namely Raiwaqa, Suva and Nadi Basketball and a lone team from California,US. All proceeds from the tournament along with player registration fees will be directed towards the Prime Ministers Cyclone appeal efforts. BF will need to pay Fiji SPorts Council their share before they can release the amount donated to the Cyclone Appeal.

Fiji claim 6th at FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017 - 1 Year ago
Team Fiji has rounded out their Bengaluru campaign by taking home 6th place in the tournament. With this being the first ever time competition in the event it is a great result which can be built upon for the future.
