The St. Paul Christian Warriors look to build on their undefeated season from last year at the 2018 GSPN Preseason Boys Basketball Tournament, which kicks off Saturday at Father Duenas Memorial School. Except for Southern High and Simon Sanchez High, each of the other nine high schools with boys basketball teams will participate. The host Friars added their junior varsity team for an 11-team field. On opening day, the bracketed tournament immediately pits top teams from last year against each other, starting with Guam High vs. Simon Sanchez at 10:30 a.m., followed by St. John's vs. John F. Kennedy at 12:05 p.m. At 1:40 p.m. is the rematch from last year's championship game, the host Father Duenas Friars against the reigning IIAAG champion St. Paul Warriors. The St. John's Knights won last year's preseason title, beating the Warriors. Rounding out the opening day schedule: Tiyan plays Okkodo at 3:15 p.m., then Harvest Christian Academy takes on the winner of the Guam High-Sanchez game at 4:50 p.m., and FD's JV team plays the winner of the St. John's-JFK contest at 6:25 p.m. After another six games on Sunday, things slow down with two games per evening -- at 5:30 and 7 p.m. -- until the championship game at 6 p.m. Jan. 20. The IIAAG Boy's Basketball League kicks off its regular season the following week on Jan. 23 with a full slate of games -- three each in the Taga and Gadao divisions. Games will mostly be held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with junior varsity contests scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
