The Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League will kick off its 2004 season on March 15 at the Garapan Basketball Court.
Coordinator Joe Mettao of the Division of Sports and Recreation, however, added that all team coaches and managers are obligated to take part in a final meeting scheduled for March 10 at 6pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.
"All the teams must have a representative present at the meeting," he said. "This will serve as the final meeting before the start of the season, and we'll be collecting all the rosters, fees, and documents including birth certificates and insurance. Each team is required to cough up $100 that will be used to cover the cost of referees and table officials.
Mettao also released the names of the five teams that have confirmed their participation this year.
Expected to hit the hard courts in a short time are last year's runner-up Garapan Rollers and Garapan Local Boyz, both coached by Joe Diaz; the Afetnas 69ers headed by Ray Duenas; the Chalan Kanoa Kings coached by Jude Loste; and a team from Koblerville that is being coached by Ray Aldan. Two other teams that have indicated playing but have yet to confirm are the Ol'Aces and the San Antonio Sixers.
The first game will probably feature the G-Rollers and the 69ers. All games this year will begin at 6:30pm.
