Afetnas 69ers, CK Kings win in IVYBL

The Afetnas 69ers picked up their second win in the ongoing Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League while the Kings made a solid debut and edged the defending champion Saints in a battle of Chalan Kanoa teams. 

The Kings worked relentlessly on both ends of the floor in the dying minutes of their match and came up with clutch shots down the stretch to pull off a 49-41 victory over the Saints at the Chalan Kanoa District One Court.
The game was tightly battled for the first three quarters, as neither team managed to end each period with a comfortable lead.
The score was knotted at 17 points apiece at the break, and veteran Joe Kim racked up 8 points in the third quarter to put the Saints up by two points, 33-31, as the fourth and final quarter approached.
Manuel Ajoste and Alvin Salas then took over and combined for 13 points in the final eight minutes, while a stinging defense held the Saints to a measly 9 points, propelling the Kings to the 8-point victory.
Ajoste finished with a team-high 15 points while Salas and Bryan Ajoste contributed with 9 and 8 points for the Kings.
Kim led the Saints, who dropped to 0-2, with a game-high 18 points while Lorenzo Sugiyama pumped in 14 points.

The 69ers made it two in a row by trouncing the San Antonio Sixers, 69-44, at the Koblerville Court.
The 69ers turned a close contest into a route in the second period as they outscored the Sixers, 24-10, to stretch a slim two-point lead to 16 points by halftime, 38-22. Preston Basa had the hot hand for the 69ers, swooshing the net for 11 points to spark the scoring spree.
Mike Eclevia tried to rally his squad back into contention behind an 8-point performance in the third quarter and four points in the fourth, but his effort came to no avail as the 69ers still lit up the scoreboard for more points in both quarters to leave with the impressive 15-point victory margin.
Basa topped all scorers with 24 points while Jake Sablan sizzled for 14 points to lead the 69ers.
Eclevia worked for 16 points while Jason Bahillo and Randolph Ferrer chipped in with 10 points apiece for the Sixers.
