Fiji remained perfect at the South Pacific Games in Samoa. They edged New Caledonia to improve to 2-0 record and continue to chase leading American Samoa in the ladder. New Caledonia were unable to recover after a slow start and fell to 0-2 record at the bottom of the standings.
Fiji were overwhelming early in the game and easily established a 50:21 lead at halftime. New Caledonia seemed to find the right rhythm in the third frame as they outscored the opponents 20:16. But it was a small success and Fiji team regained control over the game in the final quarter. Fiji dominated the dying stage and recorded another victory at the tournament. Letava Whippy scored 15 points for Fiji. Valerie Nainima (165-G-86) had 14 points for the winners. New Caledonia replied with 11 points from Myriam Fenuafanote and Wasselie Luepak. Marie-Rose Ofatuku secured another 8 points in a loss.
Fiji shot 54% from the field and 49% from free throw line. New Caledonia replied with 49% of field goals and 47% from charity stripe. Fiji outrebounded New Caledonia 51:37.
Fiji will next face hosting Samoa. New Caledonia will take on leading American Samoa.
