Fiji- New Caledonia 79:74

Fiji nip New Caledonia in their start at the 2012 Pacific Youth Championships. They needed 79:74 win for the first success.
New Caledonia erupted with 31-18 in the first period, but could not win the game. Both teams nailed 18 points in the second frame for 13-point advantage at the halftime. Fiji looked outstanding in the second half and posted two necessary victories. They needed 19-11 in the third period and finished the game with 24-14 in the last stanza.
Filimoni Vulimailaucala top-scored for the winners with 15 points and George Patterson tossed in 14. Walter Vuruya delivered 12 points, while Josaia Qalotaki had 10. Nicolas Cedare-Wimian finished the game with 15 points in the losing effort and Gabriel Honda scored 14. O'Bryan Martin netted 13, Loic Meztdorf had 12 and Alexis Abenzoar brought 10.
