AS6km won another trophy. The champions are now undefeated for two years but this territorial Final was harder than expected. Soana Lucet (187-C-87) has to give her best to lead her squad, like her 45-point effort in the game one. Now AS6km will focus on the Caledonia Cup and the 2006 Pacific Champions Cup in Numea against AS Aorai. Soana Lucet and Raissa Tabar will travel to New Zealand to play in the FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament.
Before the Finals serie, AS6KM was still undefeated and the young Riviere-Salee squad seems unable to stop their run this season. Jean-Marc Delaveuve and his team wanted to win the title to play in the 2007 Pacific Champions Cup.
"We are still undefeated this season" said Jean-Marc Delaveuve, AS6KM manager. "Our main goal is still the Pacific Champions Cup which will be held in December. But we are already thinking of Next year's Pacific Champions Cup which will be held in Tahiti, that's why we need to win the Territorial trophy this season. But we will have to remain focus because the Girls sometimes experienced difficulties because of the pressure, especially in the opening minutes of the games. After the first-quarter they are playing much better."
Game 1:
AS6km - ASRS: 59-46
AS6km wanted to secured the win as soon as possible and they did a great job with a tremendous start. Tremendous seems to be the perfect word for Soana Lucet (187-C-87) who scored 45 of the team's 59 points!
"Winning is never a guarantee" said coach Jean-Marc Delaveuve. "Riviere-Salee made a great game but my girls played the way we want and everything went fine for us. But the most important part would be the next game. We still have room to improve, especially on the individual defense. We should use this final as a preparation for the Caledonia Cup and the Pacific Champions Cup. We're looking forward to play the girls from Tahiti".
Game 2:
AS6km - ASRS: 60-56
ASRS played a great game, they started very well while the AS6km seemed to be a little bit over-confident. With 4 minutes to go the game was tied at 45-45. In the dying seconds, Riviere-Salee has the ball with a 3-point-lead for AS6km. ASRS scored a quick basket in the paint but then the girls were unable to steal the ball and Christelle Vautrin scored a three-point shot to seal the win for her side.
Thanks to this title, AS6km is qualified to the 2007 Pacific Champions Cup which will be held in Tahiti, with a potential spot in the French Cup up for grabbs.
