The Caledonia Cup final was a remake of the Territorial League final but as usual Soana Lucet and her teamates came out of the court as winners, 73-49. The team is now undefeated for two years in the country and will now focus on the Pacific Champions Cup against AS Aorai.
"If we weren't missing two starters, we could have been more dangerous for AS6km. " said Schweitzer, coach Rivière-Salee. "My girls made a good season. Most of them are family women and it's hard to deal with sport, work and family. I hope many youngsters will join our team so we would be able to be more dangerous to AS6km, which is the best team in the country today. Six of them are in the National Team against only one on our side. Before the game I asked my girls to do their best and to have fun. They did it and that was essential."
ASRS was dangerous in the first quarter and was leading 17-12 after 10 minutes thanks to 7pts from Folituu. But the AS6km engine started to run at full-speed and won the second quarter 23-10 to reach half-time on a 35-27 lead. Despite a solid game from national team rep Myriam Fenuafanote (18pts), Riviere-Salee was unable to stop AS6km. Marie-Rose Ofatuku led the winners with 17pts and captain Soana Lucet netted 15pts. AS6km's depth was really a great advantage, all the 10 players contributed on the scoring sheets while only 4 players from Riviere managed to score at least one basket.
"It's true that thay played well in the first quarter but then we made the break thanks to our experienced players" said coach Miguel Delaveuve. "The finals we played this season were a good way to improve and now we are ready to take on the tahitians from Aorai. Expect a couple of girls, our team is together for seven years now and the girls are really having fun together. In these years we were able to create a good team chemistry but also a family spirit. We won everything in the country, now it's time to confirm in the Pacific Champions Cup."
AS6km will need experience and talent when they will face AS Aorai, the Tahiti champion, in the Pacific Champions Cup later this month.
