The double New Caledonia Territorial champion AS6km will be playing their first-ever Pacific Champions Cup tonight against the tahitian champion, AS Aorai. Undefeated since two years in Caledonia, the girls from AS6km wanted to end this season on a nice note.
"It's been two years since our last defeat in New Caledonia so it would be good to win against the champions of Tahiti" said coach Miguel Delaveuve. "We don't really know their game but we know that they will be fighting for the win and some of their players were in Tahiti team in the last FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament. This isn't going to be easy. We have a great roster, maybe the difference will be the physical shape but our girls trained a lot. The good thing is that we will be playing at home".
AS Aorai, trained by Pierre Villant, already won the Pacific Cup twice in 2003 and 2004 and the team is more experienced than the caledonian champion. But a team with players like Soana Lucet, Marie-Rose Ofakutu and Raissa Tabar should be tough to beat.
Previous winners:
2005: Excelsior (Tah) defeated SS Independente (NC) 92-28
2004: AS Aorai (Tah) defeated Vallee-du-Tir (NC) 86-52
2003: AS Aorai (Tah) defeated Vallee-du-Tir (NC) 59-47
2002: Vallee-du-Tir (NC) defeated AS Aorai (Tah) 51-35
