Marcel Jones
Experienced Naturalized American Marcel Jones (203-F-85, agency: PEPI SPORT) put on an amazing game in the last round for Canterbury and that's him to receive a Usbasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7.
The 31-year old forward had a double-double of 39 points and ten rebounds, while his team crushed Taylor Hawks (#7, 2-6) with 17-point margin 106-89. Canterbury is placed at 3rd position in New Zealand NBL. Canterbury is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-5 record. In the team's last game Jones had a remarkable 73.3% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He just recently signed at Canterbury, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Oregon State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Jones is league's best scorer averaging so far 25.9ppg. Jones is in league's top in rebounds (2nd best: 10.0rpg) and averages solid 62.3% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 24-year old international guard Shea Ili (184-G-92) of league's best team Wellington S.. Ili impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 27 points and 10 assists. Of course he led Wellington S. to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Nelson G. (#6, 3-8) 110-84. Of course Wellington S. still keep the league's top spot. He plays for the best team in the league and Wellington S. managed to win all 10 games keeping a perfect record. Ili is one of the most experienced players at Wellington S. and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was Australian Mitchell McCarron (191-G-92) of SC Rangers (#4). McCarron got into 30-points club by scoring 31 points in the last round. He went also for seven rebounds and five assists. Despite McCarron's great performance SC Rangers lost 95-101 to the lower-ranked Taylor Hawks (#7, 2-6). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing SC Rangers needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 4 victories and 4 lost games. McCarron has a great season in New Zealand. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 24.4ppg (2nd best), rebounds with 7.5rpg (8th best) and assists with 5.0apg (7th best). He also has 2.3spg and FGP: 50.4%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Sam Dempster (192-G/F-90) of Nelson G. - 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Alex Pledger (215-C-87) of Southland S. - 16 points and 13 rebounds
6. Nick Kay (206-C/F-92) of Southland S. - 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Finn Delany (198-F-95) of Nelson G. - 30 points
8. Jeremy Kendle (186-G-88) of Canterbury - 27 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists
9. Lindsay Tait (190-G-82) of SC Rangers - 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Kyle Adnam (186-G-93) of Nelson G. - 25 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
