Steven Adams' double-double lands him Player of the Week award among New Zealanders playing currently abroad: - Dec 1, 2017

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of New Zealanders who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international power forward Steven Adams (213-93, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the Oklahoma City Thunder (8-12) in their last game. Despite Adams' good performance the Oklahoma City Thunder (8-12) was edged 99-98 on the road by the Detroit Pistons. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Adams also added 2 blocks in 38 minutes on the court. It was Thunder's third consecutive loss in a row. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Adams' fifth year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Adams averages: 12.4ppg, 8.1rpg, 1.2bpg, 1.4spg, 2FGP: 63.6%(84-132) and FT: 71.4% in 16 games he played so far. He played for the New Zealand senior national team six years ago.

Alex Pledger

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Alex Pledger (215-87, college: Belm.Abbey, currently plays in Australia). He was not able to help New Zealand Breakers (9-2) in their last game. Despite Pledger's very good performance the league leader New Zealand Breakers were badly defeated 89-73 in Perth by the second-ranked Wildcats. He was the top scorer with 15 points. Pledger also added 4 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 24 minutes. They ended the series of nine consecutive victories. It's Pledger's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 8.0ppg, 5.7rpg, 2FGP: 62.7%(37-59) in 11 games. Ex-Zero Fees Southland Sharks player is in the roster of the New Zealand senior national team.

Shea Ili

   #3. The New Zealand player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Shea Ili (184-92, currently plays in Australia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Alex Pledger and both played together in the last Australian NBL game. Ili. He was not able to secure a victory for New Zealand Breakers (9-2) in their game against Perth Wildcats (8-3). Ili scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. But the league leader New Zealand Breakers were badly defeated 89-73 in Perth by the second-ranked Wildcats. Ili has relatively good stats this season: 11.0ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.9apg, 2FGP: 46.2%, 3FGP: 39.1% and FT: 65.4%. He is also a member of the New Zealand senior national team.

   #4. Swingman Reuben Te Rangi (198-94, currently plays in Australia) couldn't help Bullets (3-7) in their game against Adelaide 36ers (6-5) in the Australian NBL. Te Rangi scored 8 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 19 minutes. Bullets were edged 84-83 in Findon by the higher-ranked (#3) Adelaide 36ers. It was Bullets' third consecutive loss in a row. This year Te Rangi's total stats are: 6.5ppg and 1.6rpg in eight games. He is also New Zealand national team player.

He played also in the last Australian NBL game facing Shea Ili (above) in the other team. Penney couldn't help New Zealand Breakers (9-2) in their game against Perth Wildcats (8-3). He scored 7 points. The league leader New Zealand Breakers were badly defeated 89-73 in Perth by the second-ranked Wildcats. This season Penney has relatively solid stats: 12.1ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.3apg. He used to play for the New Zealand national team two years ago.

Prewster scored only 4 points. His team was crushed by 21 points 75-54. Prewster has averaged so far 7.0ppg, 2.0rpg and 2.0apg. He is a naturalized American. Prewster used to play for the New Zealand national team two years ago. He played also for Wellington Exodus Saints in New Zealand league.

   #12. International center Mike Karena (208-93, college: Wright St., currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Lleida Basquet in their game against Blancos de Rueda in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). Karena cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 2 points in 21 minutes. His team lost 71-81. Karena has averaged so far 2.0ppg and 2.0rpg in four games. He used to play for the New Zealand national team last year.


The list of other players, who all have New Zealand passport but never been selected to any of New Zealand national teams:

   #1. Aron Baynes (208-C-86, college: Washington St., currently plays in NBA) led Boston Celtics to an easy victory against the Orlando Magic (9-13) 118-103 in the NBA last Friday. Baynes recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds. The Boston Celtics have a very good 19-4 record this season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Baynes' first year with the team. His overall stats this season are: 5.6ppg and 5.4rpg. Baynes has a dual citizenship: Australian and New Zealand.

   #2. Marcel Jones (203-F-85, college: Oregon St., currently plays in Bahrain) led Al-Riffa to a victory over the 11th-ranked Isa Town (2-8) crushing them 91-49 in the Bahrain Premier League last Thursday. Jones was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 16 rebounds. Al-Riffa (6-4) is placed sixth in the Premier League. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Jones has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 31.3ppg, 16.0rpg, 2.2apg, 1.3bpg and 2.0spg. Jones is a naturalized American. He used to play for McDonalds Manawatu Jets in New Zealand league.

Tai Jack Webster(193-G-95, college: Nebraska) filled most columns of the stats sheet as Galatasaray suffered an 86-85 home loss at the hands of top of the table Monaco (3 wins, 1 loss). The Tall Blacks guard scored 15 points (6/12FG) in addition to a game high 8 assists, 2 rebounds, a steal and a block. Galatasaray now have a 2-2 record, sitting third on the ladder. Here is the weekly review of the top performing New Zealand players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is an international guard Tai Jack Webster (193-95). He could not help Galatasaray (1-1) in their last game.
