JAVONTE DOUGLAS

Forward Javonte Douglas (203-F) had an amazing evening in the last round for Taranaki MA and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 1.
He had a double-double of 28 points and 20 rebounds, while his team outclassed, the league's bottom-ranked team Manawatu J. (#6, 0-1) with 26-point margin 95-69. Taranaki MA is placed at 3rd position in New Zealand league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Taranaki MA won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. Douglas just recently signed at Taranaki MA and it was his first game, where he immediately became new team's leader. Montevallo University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Douglas is in league's top in points (2nd best: 28.0ppg) and assists (8th best: 6.0apg).

Second best performed player last round was Winston Shepard (203-F-93, agency: Slash Sports) of top-ranked Canterbury. He is American forward in his first season at Canterbury. In the last game Shepard recorded impressive double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds. It was enough for Canterbury to edge SC Rangers (0-2) by 5 points 100-95. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won their first game. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Shepard is one of the most experienced players at Canterbury and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 27.0ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 11.0rpg and 8.0apg.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Shea Ili (184-G-92) of Wellington S. (#7). Ili got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for ten assists. Despite Ili's great performance Wellington S. lost 108-113 to Southland S. (#5, 1-1). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Wellington S. can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. The season just started for Ili as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Damon Heuir (189-G-91) of Nelson G. - 25 points, 3 rebounds and 9 assists
5. Lindsay Tait (190-G-82) of SC Rangers - 19 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists
6. Jarrad Weeks (185-G-89) of Southland S. - 26 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Dion Prewster (195-G/F-90) of Taylor Hawks - 23 points and 6 rebounds
8. Xavier Smith (206-C) of Taranaki MA - 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Alex Pledger (215-C-87) of Southland S. - 14 points and 13 rebounds
10. Okesene Ale (188-PG-88) of SC Rangers - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
