Marcel Jones

Experienced Naturalized American Marcel Jones (203-F-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Huskies and that's him to receive a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 33-year old forward had a double-double of 27 points and eighteen rebounds, while his team edged out Rangers (#9, 2-9) 108-104. Huskies is placed at 4th position in New Zealand NBL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Huskies will need more victories to improve their 6-4 record. In the team's last game Jones had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Huskies, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Oregon State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Jones is in league's top in points (4th best: 22.5ppg) and averages solid 58.5% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 34-year old American forward Brandon Bowman (205-F-84, agency: David Lee Services) of second-ranked Hawks. Bowman impressed basketball fans with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course he led Hawks to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Airs (#8, 2-8) 101-75. Hawks' second position in the standings has not changed. His team lost just two games this season, while they won 9 matches. Bowman is one of the most experienced players at Hawks and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 23.3ppg (#3). His other stats are also decent: 6.8rpg and 4.3apg.

The third best performed player last round was Australian Venkatesha Jois (203-F-93) of Rangers (#9). Jois scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Despite Jois' great performance Rangers lost 104-108 to the higher-ranked Huskies (#4, 6-4). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Rangers can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-9 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Jois he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Jois has individually a great season in New Zealand. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.0rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Jalen Billups (200-F/C-92) of Huskies - 28 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Nnanna Egwu (211-C-92) of Rangers - 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Nick Kay (206-F/C-92) of Saints - 19 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Tim Quarterman (198-G-94) of Rangers - 32 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
8. Roberto Nelson (190-G-91) of Sharks - 23 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists
9. Alex Pledger (215-C-87) of Sharks - 22 points and 11 rebounds
