Best players of New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa round 2

American Ashley Joens (183-G/F-2000) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's second-best Whai and that's her to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 24-year old swingman had the game-high 29 points adding seven rebounds for Whai as her team lost the game against the league's best team N. Kahu (#1, 3-0) 75-87. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Whai is placed at 2nd position in New Zealand Tauihi Basketball Aoteroa. Whai is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 1st lost game this season out of 2 games. In the team's last game Joens had a remarkable 54.5% from 2-point range. She turned to be Whai's top player in her first season with the team. Iowa State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Joens is league's best scorer averaging so far 27.0ppg. Joens is in league's top in assists (5th best: 4.0apg) and averages solid 51.9% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young Australian guard Chloe Forster (176-G-2003) of league's best team Northern Kahu. Forster impressed basketball fans with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Of course Kahu cruised to a 87-75 relatively comfortable win over Whai (1-1). A very good start of the season for her team, which won so far all 3 games without any defeat. Forster is a newcomer at N. Kahu and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was international forward Esra McGoldrick (188-F-1999) of Mainland Pouakai (#4). McGoldrick scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. She was a key player of Pouakai, leading her team to a 91-78 easy win against S. Hoiho (#5, 0-3). Mainland P. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 1 victory and 1 lost game. McGoldrick has a great season in New Zealand. After only 2 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.5ppg (7th best) and rebounds with 7.5rpg (9th best).
