Team Fiji's men's and women's team participated in a friendly match against USN Mercy personnel in what will be their only warm up game before the Pacific Games which will be held on July the 4th to the 18th in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. While both the men's and women's team put in a great effort, coach Laisiasa Puamau said this was expected of the teams. 'We are sending experienced teams and all players in both the men's and women's have played for the country in Oceania tournaments,' he said. 'So there are no reasons for us not to compete very well in PNG.' The women's team won their match against the USN Mercy Women's team 61-27, while the Fiji Men's team beat the USN Mercy Men's Basketball team 77-52. Laisiasa said now they were on their final preparations and ready to compete at the Pacific Games. He said it was also an important Games for their women's team as they would need to win either gold or a silver medal to qualify for the Basketball World Cup. He says the team will also receive a boost when their overseas based players Letava and Mikaelar Whippy, Valerie Nainima and Leba Korovou join the team.
