FIBA Oceania Secretary General Steve Smith will visit Palau, Northern Marianas and Guam in a whirlwind tour to the north of the zone. It would be an historical first-ever trip to CNMI. After 11 years in the job, Steve has never visited the Northern Mariana Islands.

"I am very much looking forward to seeing Saipan and all that Mike and Rose White have talked so fondly of for many years. I know basketball is a big participant sport in CNMI"
Steve Smith will make an important stop in Palau just a few weeks before the South Pacific Mini-Games, the main basketball tournament in the region since 2003. "I will be also be spending some time in Palau, checking the arrangements for the Mini Games and the FIBA Oceania Congress." The basketball competition at the Mini Games will involve 8 men's and 7 women's teams, and the Palau Federation are busy training their volunteers for the competition. "I will be observing the volunteers in practice and hope to help with any problems that might arise" said Steve.
