Koror Elementary School wons its third title in the Palau Elementary School League with a 64-56 vicotry over GB Harris in the Division I. GB Harris started the tournament with a points vicotry over KES but the defending champion finally managed to win the championship game.
It was an exciting game as the top two teams went up against each other for the championship trophy. GB Harris lead in the 1st 2 quarters of the game but Koror Elementary showed patience and poise as they ralied in the 3rd and 4th quarter to win the game by a score of 64-56. The gym was filled to its maximum by fans of both schools as they screemed and rooted for their school team. It brought back memories of the MSPG when the gym was filled up with fans. Both teams congratulated each other after the game and everyone enjoyed the competition. Michael Ongalibang from the Ministry of Health Substance Abuse program presented the trophies as they were co-sponsors of the program. The aim of the after school program is to give the kids the opportunity to compete and excel both on and off the court and to help them stay away from alcohol and drugs. It also promotes good sportsmanship and winning character to the kids. 5 years ago when we started the program kids were getting into fights after the games. We made some adjustments and rules governing the game itself and after the games and the reward today is the kids now understand winning and losing and are very competative during the games but after they shake each others hands and walk away as friends. KES Team B won the Sportsmanship Award while Meyuns Elem. school won 3rd Place and GB Harris won 2nd Place.
