Samoa stun Papua New Guinea in Day 5 of the 2012 Pacific Youth Championships. The team needed 89:69 win to face New Caledonia tomorrow in the game for the 5th place. Papua New Guinea will take on Tahiti to escape the last position of the tournament.
Samoa opened the game with 22-10 but needed a strong finish to win the game as Papua New Guinea replied with 26-12 in the second period. Samoa won the third period 26-14 and finished the game with 26-19.
Fagaloia Vaetoe top-scored for the winners with 22 points and Sapeti Tufuga collected 19 points and 15 boards. Theordore Mcfarland had 12 points and 11 caroms, while Ene Togia netted 9. Moses Lune tossed in 17 points in defeat, while Bomai Muri added 15. Obert Muri contributed 11 and Victor Daroa had 9.
