New Zealand demolish Papua New Guinea at the Quarterfinal Stage of the Pacific Championship. The hosts of the campaign posted a 103:66 win and advanced to the Semifinals.
New Zealand Maori took the lead from the first minutes and reached 32-18 advantage at the end of the first period. Both teams scored 19 points each in the second frame for 14-point lead at the halftime of the home side. New Zealand Maori were successful with 23-11 run in the third period and later finished the game with a 29-18 rally. They managed to score three-digit number at the end of the game.
James Paringatai (200-F-86) stepped up with 19 points and Puke Lenden (198-G/F-80) collected 16 points and 13 rebounds. Taurima also scored 16 and Bailey-Novell added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Gabriel Elavo poured in 16 points in the losing effort and Purari Muri (PG-93) had 14. Wally Parapa produced 12, whilst Apia Muri shot 11.
