The Maori stormed into the game. They went on a convincing 23:3 run in the opening quarter. New Zealand boosted the gap in the second term. They established a 42:14 halftime advantage. The hosts stayed in charge throughout the third term. The Maori rallied to a comfortable 62:22 advantage at the final intermission. New Zealand never looked back afterwards marching to the victory.
