Lae Armature Basketball Association (LABA) is all set to host the National All Stars Basketball Championship this year. Preparations are all set for the championship to kick off on July 19th 21st in Lae where selections for the PNG National squad will be selected to undergo training and lead up games in preparations for the 2015 Pacific Games. President of LABA Peter Kesu Sayama in an email sent to this paper last week pointed out important things that needed to be met by interested associations throughout the country in order to qualify for the championship. President of the Basketball Federation of PNG (BFPNG), Nick Daroa also urge invidual associations to sent representatives for the BFPNG Annual General Meeting that will be held during the championship in Lae on the same weekend. The All Stars tournament, which is a tournament used by the BFPNG to select its national men and womens team will see various centers battling out at the Lae Eriku basketball courts for the top honor while players will also be vying for selections. Daroa said players will be selected to go in for training camp in preparations to attend the Pacific Open tournament that will be held in Wellington in New Zealand on November 28th this year. We will also discuss other important agendas during the AGM. The three important things which will be on discussion are the AGM, selection of training squad for the Pacific Open tournament and the 2015 Pacific Games, Daroa said in his email sent. LABA president Sayama said that all interested centers must submit their interest early to participate before July 10th. We will not accept any late registrations and it should be noted that only the affiliated members of 2012 2013 season are eligible to participate, Sayama said. The LABA president also mentioned that participating centers must also send their two referees for refresher courses as well as coaches workshop. The coaches workshop will be facilitated by Lee Kotoveke and Karo Lelai of BFPNG.
