Samoa beat Tahiti in the opener of the 2012 Pacific Youth Championships. The winners overcame the opponents 69:47 at the Churchill Leisure Centre in Victoria.
Samoa started the game with 14-7 rally and posted 18-14 in the second frame. They never looked behind after although Tahiti managed to win the third period 14-13. Samoa finished the game with massive 24-12 surge and celebrated the first victory.
Sapeti Tufuga top-scored for the winners with 18 points, while Theordore Mcfarland added 16. Marquise Vaili and Alema Arp posted 8 points each in a win. Jean Peters ended up with 10 points, while Matu Temanaha netted 7. Maxime Ausangee tossed in 6, whilst Tepoea Teurua and Poea Kaimuko had 5 each.
Tomorrow Samoa will face Australia, while Tahiti will take on Guam.
