New Zealand Maori outgun Samoa in Wellington at the end of the first day of the Pacific Championship 2013. The hosts started the tournament with a 93:72 win.
New Zealand Maori won the first period 26-15 and never looked behind. They added 32-24 rally in the second frame and had 58:39 halftime advantage. Moreover the hosts won the third quarter 23-20 and increased to 22 points after 30 minutes of the game. Samoa managed to win the last stanza 13-12 and reduced to final 93:72 result.
Daniel Green (208-F-92) stepped up with 30 points and Shea Ili (183-G-92) added 15. Puke Lenden (198-G/F-80) collected 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Ross Taurima (187-G-87) poured in 11. Robson Tavita (194-F-70) ended up with 16 points in the losing effort and Ikenasio delivered 15. Valance McCarthy and George Leafa produced 12 points each in a loss.
