This is the first of many interviews that talks to various people that would give us a better insight into the development of basketball in Samoa.  First we have Sam T’eo, president of the Samoan National Basketball Association.  T’eo is also vice president of FIBA Oceania.  Because of technical difficulties, parts of the interview were inaudible and therefore were not included.  My apologies for that.  We thank Sam T’eo, for thank part in the interview and we wish him all the best in his efforts in developing basketball in Oceania.

How many years are you president of SNBA?

I have been president since 1999.

How would you describe the facilities in Samoa?

There are no facilities.  We have only one gym, the floor is in bad condition, and we have to share it with 5 to 6 more sports.  that has not allowed us to play international competitions.  With the new gymnasium build for the 2007 South Pacific Games, we are hoping that we can play in better facilities.

How would you describe the youth development in Samoa?

One of objective is to develop the local players through our competition that would allow us to send those players overseas, gain experience playing and hopeful return to Samoa and teach our locally based players. Some of those players are Iopu Muliaga who is currently playing basketball in San Francisco and Boyd Lauano who is based in Hawaii. We are not looking to win medals in competitions but we want to properly develop our local players for the future.

Samoa has a lot of players that are based overseas.  What efforts have you done to see those players play for Samoa in the national team?

We have coordinators in New Zealand and Hawaii that are to gather players that are eligible to play for Samoa, and train<
