Samoa wins gold

FIJI under-18 basketball men's team lost to Samoa 57-61 in the gold medal match of the B division in the 2016 International Basketball Federation Oceania U18 Championship yesterday. The match was played at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. Fiji led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter before Samoa came back in the other three quarters winning 15-13, 17-11 and 20-15. Excited Samoa coach Woolley Le'au'anae said Fiji made them work hard. "We tried hard and kept going in the match," he said. "The players stepped up on their defence and dominated on the outside. "I told the players to tighten in defence and play keep attacking the Fijian defence." Nippy Collin Lal was instrumental for Fiji as he made some good moves and breaks in the game. He scored 14 points and had five assists and said: "Fiji was a good team and had a good shape and defence. "The game could have gone the other way if we had not stepped up." Fiji team officials said they would make a press release on the game report but there were no report sent when this article when to press.
Meanwhile, Fiji U18 women's team defeated Tahiti 71-37 in the division B gold medal match.
