Tahiti starts South Pacific Games with win over Solomon Islands

Tahiti national squad faced no problems en route to their first win at the South Pacific Games in Samoa. They easily defeated Solomon islands to climb on top of the ladder after the first day of action. Tahiti dominated the game right from the start and posted an early 23:13 lead. The gap grew to 49:23 at halftime and Tahiti actually fulfilled the task. However they never slowed down in the second half and continued to pile up their lead. They allowed their opponents to score just 15 points in the second half and celebrated a comprehensive victory at the end. Aliz Lefranc led Tahiti with 21 points. Vaeana Nautre added 13 points in a winning effort. Solomon Islands replied with 10 points from Joycelyn Basia. Jessy Konofilia added 6 points in defeat.
Tahiti shot 60% from the field and 52% from free throw line. Solomon Islands knocked down 28% of field goals and 36% of free throws. Both teams grabbed 30 rebounds.
Tahiti will next face American Samoa. Solomon Islands play against Samoa.
