The Basketball Championships recently held at the 3rd Solomon Games in Makira Province early July 2006 were a great success for all the teams that competed. Every team from a total of 6 different provinces played the game with a great attitude, respecting their team mates, opponents and officials, and all are to be congratulated. The chamionships were spearheaded by Games Commissioner and FIBA Oceania / SIBF Australian Youth Ambassador for Development (AYAD), Ryan Burns who has been in country for some months now assisting Solomon Islands Basketball.

"The Solomon Games is not only a great opportunity for athletes and coaches to compete at a high level, but also enables referees and officials to apply and test their skills under pressure." Stated AYAD Ryan Burns upon his return to Honiara, who continued to say that "what was most important for the games was for people from all over the Solomon Islands to come together, enjoy eachother's company and make new friends. Afterall that is what sport is all about."

The end of the Championships resulted with the final placings:
1st Guadalcanal (Gold Medal)
2nd Renbel (Silver Medal)
3rd Temotu (Bronze Medal)
4th Makira
