Earlier this month, the Honiara Basketball Association Super 4 teams played the semifinals. It really was an exhibition of the best Honiara has to offer. The finals will be played at the Multi Purpose Hall.

Sunrise - Sossa: 49-36
The first match was 1st placed Sunrise women Vs 4th placed LR Sossa women. In what was a thrilling a match, LR Sossa really took it to the competition leaders thanks to some great outside shooting from Delmah taking LR Sossa ahead 25 - 24 at half time. By the end of the 3rd quarter there was still only 1pt between the 2 teams until a last quarter surge by Sunrise put the game out of reach for LR Sossa. Sunrise 49 def LR Sossa 36.
Sunrise: Joycelan 22pts, Mina 10pts, Gloria 9pts
LR Sossa: Delmah 15pts, Debby 7pts

Andel - Roberta: 31-27
The second womens semi final was a close contest between recent U/20 Competition winners Andel and reigning HBA Champions Roberta Roses. The match was close all the way with big crowd cheering each team to victory. With only one place remaining in the final match this Sunday it was Andel who were in front at full time. Andel 31 def Roberta Roses 27
Andel: Jessie 8pts, Nicola 7pts, Maea 7pts
Roberta Roses: Nimuna 18pts, Fono 6pts.

Fiji - Solomon Islands 76-54 Fiji rout Solomon Islands in Port Moresby in Day 2 of the Melanesia Cup 2017. Trailing 17-20 at the end of the first period, Fiji needed a strong 20-9 surge to take a 37-29 halftime advantage. Moreover they added a 22-14 run in the third period and closed the game with a final 17-11 run. Letava Whippy (175-G-91) stepped up with 24 points and Mafi Foiakau (01) netted 16. Solomon Islands - New Caledonia 59- 53 Solomon Islands edge New Caledonia 59-53 in Melanesia Cup opener. They took an early 14-5 lead and led 17 point at the halftime. New Caledonia replied with two narrow wins in the second half, but could not save the game. Ruth Sade top-scored for the winners with 13 points, while Rose Gwali and Joycelyn Besia each netted 12. Temotu Province wins Women's Division - 2 Years ago
Temotu Province have won Women's Division of the Solomon Islands competition. With 7 participating teams, they won almost all the games with double-digit numbers. In the Final game Temotu Province overcame Choiseul Province. The game was a tough one for both squads and only in the end, Temotu Province proved too strong with a dominant fourth quarter defensive effort to secure the Gold. In the game for the third place Malaita Province beat Renbel Province.   [read more]
